USAID Mission Director North Tours Construction of the Aceh Teacher Training College
Banda Aceh –
United States Agency for International Development Mission Director Walter North yesterday toured the site of a new $10 million state of the art teacher training facility being completed at the University of Syiah Kuala (Unsyiah). USAID is providing support to build and furnish the new facility.
The effort is part of the US Government’s Education and Tsunami Grant Assistance Program for the Aceh Province.

Third Season of USAID-supported Jalan Sesama to Focus on the Environment
Deputy Chief of Mission Ted Osius opened the third season of Jalan Sesama, the popular Trans7 TV children’s television show supported by USAID, with remarks underscoring the importance of children’s education in helping Indonesia rise from poverty.
“In a country where more than half the population subsists on $2 a day, education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty. We need to encourage children to stay in school,” said Mr. Osius.

U.S. Embassy, DanceMotion USASM, and Komunitas Salihara Present: ODC Dance Company
The United States Embassy in Jakarta is pleased to announce that DanceMotion USASM and Komunitas Salihara are presenting “ODC Dance Company," an American contemporary dance company. The public is invited to two free performances, on Friday, January 29, and Saturday, January 30, at 8 p.m. at the Teater Salihara, Jl. Salihara, Pasar Minggu, Jakarta Selatan. Reservations are required due to limited seating.
ODC Dance Company was founded by Brenda Way in 1971 at Oberlin College in Ohio.

President Obama and Family to Visit Indonesia in March
Jakarta – President Obama and his family will make a state visit to Indonesia in the second half of March 2010, according to a White House announcement.
This trip is an important part of the President's continued effort to broaden and strengthen the partnerships that are necessary to advance our security and prosperity. Indonesia is the world's fourth most populous country, the third largest democracy; is home to the largest Muslim population in the world; and an important partner in the G20.
